Thecla Renders
Thecla Renders
Thecla Renders (1956) studied at the art academy in Rotterdam and art history in Leiden. She has worked as an independent artist since 1984 and exhibits in the Netherlands and abroad.
Her still lifes and figure studies are simple and restrained in form but expressively worked out, sometimes with patterns in the foreground and the background, and sometimes with the frame as part of the work. Form is in the service of colour and of expression: the bright, intense use of colour is contemplative and confronting at once.
At ARTACASA this is seen above all in flowers, in mixed media on paper and wood: zinnias, mimosa, irises, pear blossom, daffodils. Among them stand torsos and portraits, and titles that point to music and memory — Tempo Rubato, Herfstsonate, Lost in time, Remember me.
On her own website she opens with eight lines from Mei by Herman Gorter, about the light that stays late in the sky.
