ARTACASA, art to fall in love with: the film
Come along on a bike ride through Amsterdam: along the canals, over the Skinny Bridge, past cosy cafés and across the Amstelveld, to ARTACASA, my gallery in my own home on the Kerkstraat. A short film in Dutch, full of works by the artists of the gallery.

Kiki Demelinne for Pink October
One of Kiki Demelinne’s ceramic ladies found a special spot in the window of Loft Optiek, Menno’s eyewear shop. Kiki is known for her curvy, voluptuous women who proudly show their bosoms, which made her figurines a perfect fit for Pink October. The figurine has now been sold, and I am donating the sale price to Pink Ribbon for breast cancer research. Thank you to the buyer, and to Menno for giving her a place in his window!

Een van de keramieken dames van Kiki Demelinne kreeg een bijzonder plekje in de etalage van Loft Optiek, de brillenwinkel van Menno. Kiki staat bekend om haar weelderige vrouwen die trots hun boezem laten zien, en dat maakte haar beeldjes perfect voor Pink October. Het beeldje is inmiddels verkocht en ik doneer het verkoopbedrag aan Pink Ribbon voor onderzoek naar borstkanker. Dank aan de koper, en aan Menno voor het plekje in zijn etalage!
Wings of Support: an update from Nairobi
Twelve years ago, during a Wings of Support bushcamp week in Kenya, Marianne and I met four girls: Victoria, Sharon, Queensie and Hawo. For twelve years now we have paid for their primary school, secondary school and further studies, and we follow and support them and their families, with the help of many of you.
Last month an unexpected flight took me to Nairobi for a day, and Hawo and Victoria came to see me at the KLM crew hotel. Victoria has finished her business studies, graduates in November and already works for the company where she did her internship. Hawo, the youngest, has started a two-year hospitality course in Nairobi. Sharon trained as a hairdresser and is now working abroad. Sadly, we never heard from Queensie again; she left with her grandmother. Such a pity, because she was a bright and above all lovely girl. I hope she is doing well.
When Hawo finishes her course next year, we will close this project. We will of course stay in touch with the girls for as long as they wish.

Twaalf jaar geleden leerden Marianne en ik tijdens een bushcampweek van Wings of Support in Kenia vier meisjes kennen: Victoria, Sharon, Queensie en Hawo. Al twaalf jaar betalen we hun lagere school, middelbare school en opleidingen, en volgen en steunen we hen en hun families, met hulp van velen van jullie.
Vorige maand bracht een onverwachte vlucht me een dag naar Nairobi, en Hawo en Victoria kwamen naar het KLM-crewhotel. Victoria heeft haar opleiding bedrijfskunde afgerond, krijgt in november haar bul en werkt al bij het bedrijf waar ze stage liep. Hawo, de jongste, is begonnen aan een tweejarige hospitality-opleiding in Nairobi. Sharon werd kapster en werkt nu in het buitenland. Van Queensie hebben we helaas nooit meer iets gehoord; ze is met haar oma vertrokken. Heel jammer, want ze was een slimme en vooral leuke meid. Ik hoop dat het goed met haar gaat.
Als Hawo volgend jaar haar opleiding afrondt, sluiten we dit project af. Contact houden we natuurlijk zolang de meisjes dat zelf willen.
